Politicians are hung up on keeping the growth curve rising. Places like Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park, New Jersey despite their uniqueness and popularity don’t stand a chance. Asbury Lanes is a vintage bowling alley and bar with live performances, ranging from live musical acts, burlesque shows and place is littered with works from local artists! Yet, owners Patrick Fasano and Vincent Gifford have an agreement with iStar Financial to give the redeveloper the Asbury Lanes property in exchange for receiving two properties on Second Avenue. They will operate Asbury Lanes until September 2015. The building is being targeted for demolition.
On Sunday night “Asburied In Time,” documentary’s director Bridget Machete filmed behind the scenes of Asbury Lanes’ burlesque show. She spent the evening with Jenn Hampton, the owner of Parlor Gallery on Cookman Avenue who manages Asbury Lanes and struggles to preserve “the Lanes” as it was and keep it as it is. Jenn gave us a tour of Asbury Lanes and showed us how this 1960s vintage, still fully functional bowling alley works. This unforgettable night and an interview with Jenn, as well as the behind the scenes of Burlesque Show will be featured in “Asburied In Time,” documentary.
