Asbury Park Journey Continues

As just an unabashed rock and roll music fan, working on “Asburied In Time” and meeting people like Stan Goldstein and Jean Mikle, the writers of “The Rock and Roll Tour of the Jersey Shore,” makes you realize how lucky you are. Their lives are full of fascinating tales of musicians and the world of music, and pop culture in Asbury Park. A little over a week ago Machete Media listened to Stan and Jean talk about music history, Asbury Park and Bruce, of course.

Stan gives tours of AP to people visiting from nearby, out of state and even out of country. Jean mentioned that music is universal and it is what makes Asbury Park more open to the world, through music it stays connected. There are a lot people out there who because of Bruce Springsteen's lyrics got curious about this town and I don’t know whether the local papers or the internet are the right forums, but you’ve just got to make sure that people who are interested have somewhere to go to, to get information. Jean and Stan’s book is a great read for that and of course there is nothing better like the tour of AP and hearing all of these great stories first hand.

Both Jean and Stan agree that Asbury Park is a magical place and tourists who come here to see the town Bruce was singing about love to hear the story of Asbury Park. Some of them seem upset when they realize certain places their idol is singing about are gone but let’s face it; we enjoy stories that end on a happy note, where good prevails over bad, often against the odds. We like it even better when it happens in real life. Asbury Park is telling us exactly that story, everyday … all over again.
