"This Here Guitar"- Chris Brown's story
We first met Chris Brown few months back at our Film Trailer release party where he performed for us and graced us with most infectious music and perfect lyrical stories. Not surprisingly, his Album “Anchor” was greeted with critical acclaim upon release in July of 2014, his songs tell perfect stories that everyone can relate to and he always seems to have the right thing to say.
t was with great expectancy that director, Bridget Machete and her production team drove to Asbury Park couple weeks ago to again, meet with Chris for a sit down interview.
A decade or so ago, Asbury Park, was emerging as an “up-and-coming” summer retreat. Chris Brown, born and raised in Asbury Park, an artist, musician, singer and song writer and a true Asbury Park citizen has seen it change and transform since then. In anticipation of hearing from a well-known local musician like Chris, we were hopeful to find out something new and invigorating about Asbury Park. We were glad that Chris has satisfied our hunger for more. We talked about the old days, the 1970s riots and the change.
The 10 years leading up to the Asbury Park as it is right now were full of pressure, dashed hopes, and struggle for its community. They weren’t necessarily dark years as Asbury Park has seen it worse, but they were hard. In the end, the trials of these years were good for the re-birth of AP. They were helpful. And as Asbury Park came out from the fog, it found its eyes obstinately set on the future and town’s unique strengths including its eclectic music scene.
I like Chris. He is energetic and clever and peaceful and humble. He loves music and he loves Asbury Park.
