To the ever-growing catalog of interesting individuals who will grace the “Asbuied In Time” documentary we can now add Marylin Schlossbach, a chef, restaurateur and philanthropist.
In celebration of Earth’s Day we are absolutely delighted to profile Marylin in our film, an avid believer in sustainable products, organic foods and integrated recycling. She is dedicated to her two organic, edible gardens at two of her properties, as well as leading the Carousel Farmer’s Market in Asbury Park. Her community work embodies an Interfaith Neighbors on Asbury Park’s Kula Café, community gardening and surf lessons with the Boys and Girls Club of Asbury Park, and her resolute support of environmental organizations like Clean Ocean Action which protect coastlines and marine environments. Also around Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays she organizes community dinners for needy, homeless and lonely.
The filmmaker, Bridget Machete met with Marylin on Saturday at one of her restaurants in Asbury Park called Langosta Lounge. It’s one of four restaurants Schlossbach co-owns in Asbury Park—of seven total. Langosta Lounge was totally destroyed during Sandy. The storm hit the main floor, the frames of all of the floor-to-ceiling windows facing the ocean blew in and Sandy carried everything inside including sand, water, metal and wood. Restaurant re-opened last year in May. It was re-designed and its walls are decorated with pieces of wood from homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, as well as the few portions of the Asbury Park boardwalk that were damaged. They had to start from scratch and every year they are putting a lot of faith in people coming back to the shore in summer.
Marylin Schlossbach, recently named one of New Jersey’s 2014 Best 50 Women in Business, shares her amazing story and talks about Asbury Park and her hopes for its future, her accomplishments in business as well as in her non-profit endeavors.
