It's always humbling when you encounter a person that is truly devoted to music and art. Machete Media Productions is thrilled to have interviewed Scott Stamper, owner of THE SAINT in Asbury Park and the Wave Gathering Music Festival founder. Scott is an advocate of the area’s conscientious musicians, singers and songwriters, and the venerable, ever-evolving, live, inventive music scene in Asbury Park. The in-depth interview will be featured in “Asburied In Time” documentary.

THE SAINT was an early site of the yearly Asbury Park Music Awards ceremony originated by Stamper in partnership with Pete Mantas in 1993. Today due to the overwhelming response from audiences and musicians they usually host the event in Stone Pony or Fastlane. They present over 30 awards to distinguish the best emerging talent, music, art, philosophies and moments from the artistic community and local scene. Asbury Park’s community has supported and contributed to making this annual festivity a triumphant and rising success for two decades.

Scott Stamper has a knack for finding top quality types of bands and booking them before anyone else does. In one of the interviews Scott said “it comes down to trust and determining the band or artists motives of having a successful show.” As a result, THE SAINT hosts big sounds in its tiny abodes, and a first-rate experience is the name of the game here. Natives, legends, and world notorious artists make their annual and eloquent appearances to the venue. National acts like Bruce Springsteen, Creed, Jewel, Joey Ramone, just to name the few, have performed on their stage. The vibe here is comfy and friendly with THE SAINTS’ unique and authentic atmosphere and rich wall décor of posters from past shows.

THE SAINT is best known as a music scene, but on Monday nights there is another choice of entertainment there, the Night of Storytelling. This is a couple of hours where you listen to people tell their stories and everyone and anyone can get up on stage and share their two- to ten-minute story expressed in natural manner as if told to the group of friends at the party.
