These days, when winning the youth over interactive gaming and hours of sitting in front of a computer is nearly impossible, the world needs to know just how central the value of outdoor activity can be. The world needs to know how getting young people playing outside again will help change the future.

Two years after the “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” movement shone a light on the issue of Nyack community needing a recreational outdoor space for skateboarders and finally getting the construction of skating plaza in Memorial Park approved, director Bridget Machete decided to produce a new Machete Media Productions documentary project, titled just the same ‘Nyack Needs a Skatepark.’

The concept behind the “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” project is to document the skateboard subculture in general and show what it’s like to be a skater in Rockland County; what the residents of Nyack believe about the sport, where the best spots are and how the new Skatepark will change the area for better. This will be an interview heavy examination of the community effort to create something “really good” for now and the future generations of Nyack outdoor sports enthusiasts. Machete Media Productions will follow the birth of this major production of Nyack Skatepark on the banks of Hudson River from the design to the opening, covering and chronicling the life and behind-the-scenes of Sarah Anderson’s journey to make the park a reality for Nyack community.

Sarah Anderson who is a founder and promoter of Nyack Needs A Skatepark movement has continually encouraged international skaters and celebrities to engage with the Nyack skateboarding community. Her efforts have been coroneted with the Misfits benefit concert that took place on May 31st at the Nyack Center. Bridget Machete had a rare opportunity to interview Jerry Only of Misfits who has expressed his support for the skaters of Nyack. This interview as well as the Misfits concert will be included in the documentary.

Bridget Machete herself has been skateboarding since she was eight and through this project she will be sharing her love of skateboarding with us and letting the “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” film inspire you. This is also meant to be an opportunity for everyone who wants to participate in the process of creating and reinventing the history of skateboarding in Nyack. Machete Media Productions wants to feature local kids skateboarding and telling their individual stories as they relate to the need for skatepark in their neighborhood. So if you are a skateboarder in Nyack or in neighboring towns of Rockland County, please give us a shout. We’d love to film you. Machete Media Productions will intermittently release videos promoting many different local skaters and their stories.
