Femi Redwood reported from Nyack about most famous skateboard champion and backer, Tony Hawk’s support of the Nyack Needs A Skatepark grassroots movement. Tony Hawk’s grant will support the construction of the outdoor skatepark plaza in Memorial Park in Nyack, NY. She also interviewed our own Bridget Machete who is working on the documentary that follows founder of Nyack Needs A Skatepark movement, Sarah Anderson, and will chronicle the whole process of founding to building to grand opening of the park. One of the things “Nyack Needs a Skatepark” documentary will also do is highlight major updates in the story and explain the thinking behind them. Also in the FIOS1 News story Machete Media Productions shared its recent video on "Go Skateboarding Day: where skaters talk about the need for skatepark in the area. Today News 12 also did the story about Nyack Skatepark and they will feature clips from the same video as well.

Nyack is a home to some really talented skateboarders, with the next generation coming up strong. But finding a place to skate in Nyack is a real adventure for many. Skateboarders are very creative in finding skating opportunities: downtown Nyack, or basketball courts, parking lots etc. But safety is a concern. When asked to comment about current skating situation in Nyack, Bridget Machete told the reporter that she has filmed skaters in the area and it is very difficult for them to skate freely without worrying about getting hit by a car. One thing everyone seems to agree on is the idea that a Skatepark would be a nice break and great place to socialize while indulging in skateboarders’ favorite outdoor activity. Place, where skaters would have room for development with an inventive scene of ramps, curves or whatever you can think of.

It is certain that this is not some impulsive attempt....this is a skatepark that will be built and upheld with a passion and love for the sport. Nyack Needs A Skatepark foundation have raised a total of 75K but they still need $100K more to close the deal. No funding has been provided by Village of Nyack, all of the money came from donations. Tony Hawk’s support gives Nyack community of skateboarders great hope ....thank you Tony Hawk and to all who are supporting this great cause!
