For all that had passed before, the most significant moment in the history of Nyack Needs A Skatepark grassroots movement occurred at Design Vision Workshop on August 6th at The Village of Nyack where more than sixty five skate park supporters showed up. The good news is New York State has awarded $100K to Nyack Skate Park Project. This is extremely exciting; Nyack Needs A Skatepark has raised a total of $175,000! Put another way, this project is now a reality and will be moving forward.

Machete Media Productions, attended and filmed this meeting of course. We ended up sitting next to Jerry Only of Misfits and his family and got to speak with them very briefly. This has made the whole event better. So much better. Who would have thought that we'd have the pleasure of sitting next to Jerry Only from the legendary punk rock group The Misfits!

After lots of filming and speaking with some of the brightest minds in the skateboarding community and Senator Carlucci himself, who in his speech said “It makes it easier when it comes from the ground up…when it’s organic…when the community really comes together and sees that vision.” We can see this as a year of achievement…citizens of Nyack will have a chance to work with Action Sport Design company, selected to design Nyack’s new skate park, on comprehensive yet unique proposal that meets the skateboarder’s and Nyack community expectations.

So to some pessimists, the heartening “you can do it!” message I’d like to give on this blog may be tacky and lavish, but to me encouragement is the fuel of goal-attaining and accomplishment. So “you can do it!” Stony Point or Newburgh Skate Plaza or any other town looking to create something great for their community.

Excerpts from this meeting will be featured in our documentary “Nyack Needs A Skatepark.” But also go back through Nyack Needs A Skatepark’s timeline on their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nyack-Needs-a-Skatepark to see their incredible journey and what has been going on in great detail.

Stay Tuned!
